Back in the 1990's, shareware CD's were all the rage with BBS (bulletin board system) operators, as the primary means of distributing software to their users.
Most of the titles in common use (Night Owl, Pier, Starvector, PC-SIG, Cream of the Crop, etc) were created for the popular IBM PC market at the time, with little thought given to users of other systems.
Otherware came along in 1994 to alleviate that "dead spot", with a full 600mb of current shareware software for Macintosh and Amiga computers. The disc remains in the standard ISO9660 format, so it's easily readable by DOS/Windows machines as well as the Macs and Amigas it was designed for.
