Description

This particular auction features a really rare piece of history. This piece is a late 1920's early 1930's Gorham Silver Company Hotel Ware Gravy Boat. Gorham made this gravy boat for The Pacific Coast Club of Long Beach Ca. and it bears the crest of this club. It is Hallmarked Gorham. It is Silver Soldered and is marked 4 oz. The value of this piece is directly attributed to it's scarcity. I could not find others like it except in museums.

A short History follows:The Pacific Coast Club was built in 1926 and included a hotel for the club members. For many years the Pacific Coast Club was the center of social and business activities in Long Beach, California. The building was highlighted by it's bright blue tile roof and carved building borders. Inside the club had beautiful curved ceilings adorned with carvings of mythological characters and other decorations. The many beautiful treatments of the interior, including the fire places, combined with it's unique exterior architecture made the building a work of art on the inside as well as the outside. The City's most famous private club, designed in the Chateauesque style, with interior decorations by the Heinsbergens of Los Angeles. Architects: Curlett and Beelman. When the building was torn down in the 1980's it led to the formation of a Heritage Society in Long Beach, that cut across all economic and cultural borders to preserve more of the history of this area.

This piece has been in my personal possession for a very long time. I have not cleaned or polished it so thatyou may decide according to your taste. Please view the photos as they are part of the description.
