The Canon Power Winder A2 was introduced when along with the AE-1 Program in 1981. But it is compatible with all the rest of the Canon A-series models. It automatically advances the film at a rate of about two frames per second. You only have to hold the shutter button down for continuous shooting capability, or release your finger from the button after each exposure and the film will automatically wind a single frame. Compact and easy to use, the Power Winder A2 automatically stops at the end of each roll of film. It is especially suited for fast-action photography and enables you to capture a subject's movement or changing expressions. Furthermore, when it is coupled with the Canon A-1 or AE-1 PROGRAM, Canon's remote control accessories can also be attached to the Power Winder A2 and this has further enhanced versatility for the two cameras. Although it was designed as an dedicated companion winder for the AE-1 program, other A series camera models such as Canon A-1, AE-1 PROGRAM, AE-1, AV-1, AT-1 and AL-1 can also be used with it. Note: Third party reference book claimed the professional New Canon F-1 'may' also be used* but since none of the motor drive/winders designed for Canon's A-series SLRs offer a power rewind feature, thus, even if such combination exists, the power rewind feature is definitely not possible with the New F-1. (more info available on the power rewind feature on New F-1). Another key advantage over the earlier Winder A was it's more responsive in actual operation. The winder A2 will automatically advance to the next frame and you need not have to release the finger from the shutter release button (The original Winder A required you to do that). Further, since the Power Winder A2 has a remote control socket for use with the A-1 and AE-1 PROGRAM, shooting from a distance is possible via the socket with Remote Switch 3 or 60, or Wireless Controller LC-1, or Interval Timer TM-1 Quartz (optional accessories) (Note: But remote control shooting is not possible when used mounted on models such as AE-1, AV-1 or AT-1).
