Original Victorian Embroidery Designs from 1888!

Genuine Victorian Symbolism Birds

Newly Republished as Iron-on Transfers

Not Readily Available to Needle Artists for Over 122 Years!

Up for your consideration is one of the first sets of our NEW PRODUCT LINE of Genuine Victorian Embroidery Designs which were originally offered for sale to needle art lovers in 1888!

These fancywork designs were originally sold in 1888 and have not been offered for sale for over 122 years! However, we strove to make them available once again and can now offer you beautiful Victorian embroidery designs in easy, ready-to-use, iron-on transfers! Great for your needle working pleasures, home decorating and gift giving!

Perhaps you know of someone who loves to stitch red work, black work, art embroidery, etc., who would love to receive the transfer sheets themselves. Or, you might pre-stamp fabric goods for gifts in the form of doilies, tea towels, potholders, table runners, dress shirts, bed linens, pillow cases, etc!

Our Iron-on Transfer Products are made with a special process providing the user the ability to quickly and easily transfer the designs via using a hot, dry iron. Several prints are possible per motif. Thereafter the designs may still be used by investing in one of the various inexpensive transfer pen products available, or do as many women of previous generations did, trace the design using a pencil and light table or well-lit window.

All Transfer Products will arrive in a protective envelope as shown in the listing photo which clearly defines the contents, designs, etc. Instructions for using these transfers will be included for your convenience including fabric suggestions and more! The dimensions of this set's designs is approximately 5 x 5 inches. If you desire larger or smaller sized transfers of these designs please let me know and I will list an Atomic Mall store item just for you!

An excerpt from our scarce and fragile original:

"TRANSFERRING DESIGNS

Are now universally known, and the process is acknowledged to be the most perfect, simple, and expeditious manner of Tracing Designs for all kinds of Embroidery. One of the great recommendations of these Transferring Papers is that they enable Ladies to trace upon their own Material ; this being much less expensive than purchasing ready-traced Articles."

A Bit Regarding the "Genuine Victorian Symbolism!" of These Designs

Victorians used flowers to communicate their personal and societal sentiments on a daily basis. In particular, Victorian WOMEN used flowers to secretly communicate to their lovers! Very romantic!!! The use of floral symbolism became so popular during the 1800's that most every know flower carried a sentimental meaning. These meanings were naturally attached to these embroidery designs and shared via personally handmade gifts. Each meaning has been included below each of this set's designs and can be read about below!

Our customers say:

"Item as described, smooth transaction, transfers work great!"

"The embroidery designs remind me of my Grandmother. Thanks for the fast delivery."

This set of 6 Hand Fan and Floral Designs include:

Barn Swallow Bird Motif

(Signifies "Child" or "Motherhood")

Perched Scolding Bird Motif

(Perched Bird signifies "Irritation")

Flying Blue Bird Motif

(Signifies "Hope" and "Joy")

Perched Parrot Motif

(Unknown)

Sparrow Motif

(Signifies "Hope")

Great Horned Owl Motif

(Signifies "One Who is Vigilant and of Acute Wit")

Flying Crested Male Bird

(Signifies "Courage and Pre severance" "Hero" "Able Man in Politics")

Flying Dove Motif

(Signifies "Loving Constancy" "Peace" and "The Holy Spirit")

A Bit More Regarding Victorian Symbolism:

Floriography (the assigning of meanings to flowers), were elaborately utilized by Victorian women in order to express their feelings within the strict etiquette boundaries of the time. Flowers provided them a silent, but communicative, language allowing them to present to others their sentiments disallowed by cultural propriety. Furthermore, the scents of these particular plants, in sachets, scented handkerchiefs, etc., carried the same messages.

This is not the end of this complicated nonverbal Victorian language! Not only did the flower itself sent a clear message but its color and the manner in which the flowers were worn or presented did also. If the flowers were presented upright signified a positive meaning. However, when presented upside down, it meant the opposite!. If the ribbon bow encircling the bouquet was tied to the left it meant the symbolic meaning referred to the giver; if the bow was on the right meant it referred to the receiver.

Flowers were also used to answer questions from one's lover or a hopeful paramour! If the bouquet was handed to the gent or lady with the right hand, the answer was "Yes"; with the left hand "No"!

I am sure there are more meaning that I am as yet unaware of but I hope you enjoyed this information as much as I!
