Israel 2 New Sheqel NIS Roll of 25 coins 2008 BU

This roll includes 25 coins of 2 New Sheqel in BU/UNC condition. The Shipping worldwide cost 10$.

Israel 2 New Sheqel Coin UNC

The new 2 shekel coin was introduced into circulation on Sunday 12/09/07 by the Bank of Israel.

The new 2 NIS coin joins the 1NIS, 5NIS and 10NIS coins!

The coin was designed by noted artist Reuven Nutels; it is made of steel and covered in silver-colored nickel. The coin is 21.6 mm in diameter, weighs 5.7 grams and is 2.3 mm thick.

The 2-shekel design is based on ancient Jewish coins. It depicts the "horns of plenty" filled with grapes and wheat, alongside a pomegranate, that were engraved into the coins of Yehochanan Hyrcanus over 2,000 years ago.

Yehochanan was a ruler during the Hasmonean period. His ancestors were the Maccabees instrumental in the battles of Chanukah that Jewry is commemorating this week. The coin was to have been issued a while ago, but its production in the Netherlands was delayed.
