I am selling a 4oz bag of natural organic rye grain berries fully colonized with the Stroharia mushroom fungus, that s right we have taken the work, and cost out of buying a bag of sterilized rye grain, and the added expense of buying a spore syringe and you having to inoculate the bag yourself, and hope you don t contaminate it in the process.
What is grain spawn?:
Grain Spawn is mushroom mycelium grown into certified organic rye grain which is ideal for inoculating sterilized substrates, or for use in unsterilized inoculations. We recommend using grain spawn within one to three months of purchase. Most species must be stored refrigerated.
Note: Our grain spawn is virgin (fresh) sometimes it will not have white mycelium showing on the outside of the grains, but it is fully colonized and should be used ASAP after receiving it for best results.
Spawn is simply a carrier to hold a specific strain of mushroom mycelium in stasis until you, the cultivator, are ready to transfer it into another substrate such as a wood log, straw, compost etc. We incubate specialty mushroom strains in our laboratory, then cultivate them into a variety of forms for your use, including sawdust, grain, and dowel plugs. Each of these, once colonized by mycelium, is referred to as spawn. We also sell the other types of spawn here as well. This grain is ready to go, just mix it with straw, paper, coffee grounds, wood chips, yard waste etc.
Stropharia rugosoannulata , commonly known as the wine cap stropharia , "garden giant", burgundy mushroom or king stropharia (Japanese: saketsubatake), is an agaric of the family Strophariaceae found in Europe and North America, and introduced to Australia and New Zealand.
Unlike many other members of the genus Stropharia, it is widely regarded as a choice edible and cultivated for food.
The king stropharia can grow to 20 cm high with a reddish-brown convex to flattening cap up to 30 cm across, the size leading to another colloquial name godzilla mushroom . 2 The gills are initially pale, then grey, and finally dark purple-brown in colour. The firm flesh is white, as is the tall stem which bears a wrinkled ring. This is the origin of the specific epithet which means "wrinkled-ringed". 3
It is found on wood chips and bark mulch across North America in summer and autumn. Described as very tasty. King stropharia is easily cultivated on a medium similar to that on which it grows naturally. Great for inoculating wood chip beds and mulch.
