Colonel Reynolds is decidedly unhappy that Tommy, the pug dog belonging to his daughter Sylvia, has been at the carnations again. So unhappy that he gives notice that if there's one more incident he will shoot the dog. Sylvia is greatly attached to Tommy, not just for his own sake but because he was given to her by Reginald Dallas, the man she loves. But again the Colonel has stepped in and forbidden their engagement, due to a faux pas by Reginald while shooting.

Then tragedy strikes - the Colonel, gun in hand, sees Tommy excavating the flower beds ...
